Angela Cherice Gwinn Stephens

Angela who often went by her middle name Cherice was last seen on October 1, 1993, in Beckley, West Virgina. According to her husband Norman Stephens, Cherice drove him to work from their home in Bolt, that day and dropped him off in her 1993 white Dodge Daytona but failed to pick him up. Norman filed for divorce on October 27, 1993, and the divorce was granted in February 1994. For almost a year Cherice’s family tried to locate her. Failing to do so her aunt reported her missing on September 12, 1994, to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department. After the report was made police questioned her husband. Norman told police he was given a ride home that day from a coworker but has never offered the name of his coworker. When Norman arrived home that day, Cherice and her vehicle were not there, but he told police he had thought nothing of it and assumed she had “just left”. To back up his unconcerned attitude he told police Cherice called him from and out-of-state location and informed him she was not returning. He also told police her vehicle was located about a month later in a parking lot. He declined to take a polygraph on Cherice’s disappearance.

Cherice lived with Norman on his family-owned farm in Bolt. In 1997 a search of the property with cadaver dogs was conducted. Although there was a “hit” on a spot no remains were discovered. The property was next to a church the Stephens family attended and was being renovated at the time of Cherice’s disappearance. In 2017 a search was conducted on the property which turned up no new clues. Cherice’s brother is still searching for answers to bring Cherice home.

In May 2014 Cherice was declared deceased and her case became a homicide investigation.
